kit.co shut down: where do gear lists go now?

29 Oct 2026

kit.co has closed. Its official notice marks the service discontinued on 11 May 2026. A creator’s gear list and a founder’s revenue tierlist serve different jobs. Before rebuilding, decide which job your page needs to do.

The closure notice checked on 28 Oct 2026 does not provide an export deadline or recovery instructions. We cannot establish from that notice whether your old data remains available. Do not plan a migration around an export you do not already have.

Start with what you have

Find any saved exports, notes, screenshots and copies of your video descriptions. Record each list’s title, object names, maker URLs, your descriptions and any affiliate IDs. A screenshot can preserve names, but it cannot recover the links behind them.

Separately, inventory where you shared kit.co URLs: your bio, website, video descriptions, podcast notes and pinned posts. Those are places to update once a replacement page works. Keep the old-to-new address mapping in a file you control.

For gear recommendations

If readers need your camera setup or desk equipment, choose a tool built for grouped recommendations. Two services describe relevant workflows. Their claims below come from their own documentation; we have not tested their imports or affiliate handling.

Linkbout describes shareable link collections with titles, descriptions, photos and links. It also offers a link-in-bio profile. Consider it when the collection and its presentation matter most. We did not establish a native kit.co importer, so plan for manual rebuilding unless you confirm otherwise.

MakerManifest advertises curated product lists and affiliate workflows. Its kit.co importer accepts an existing CSV export, including titles, descriptions and product URLs. The documentation names collections.csv. It lists the importer on paid Basic, Premium and Founder plans. It is hidden in the “Just lists” experience. Check current availability before choosing a plan. This is an import path, not proof that the closed service can still supply your data.

MakerManifest also documents affiliate rules and a keep-or-replace choice for existing affiliate IDs. Inspect the final destination yourself. Recreating a list does not guarantee that affiliate tracking or income continues unchanged.

For a page you maintain

A gear page on your own domain gives you control over its address and content. You still depend on domain renewal, hosting and backups. Keep a separate copy of the text and links. Store images only where you have permission to use them. Expect to maintain prices and check destinations yourself.

A private list may be enough if nobody else needs your recommendations. Our comparison of wishlist apps and a public milestone ladder explains where each shape fits. Publicity is useful only when the page has a public job.

For objects tied to revenue

A gear list says what you recommend. A revenue tierlist says what your company intends to buy when it hits a number. tierlist pairs revenue milestones with objects from the Library. Owners report their numbers and mark unlock dates. We do not verify revenue or purchases. It is not a kit.co importer or an affiliate gear-list replacement.

The NanoCorp sample tierlist demonstrates the format. Its displayed unlocks are sample entries, not verified customer achievements. You can draft your tierlist free; keeping one public page live costs $9 per month.

When a page becomes quiet after a lapse, its tiers and dates remain visible, with a “no longer live” note. The service checks subscription status on signed-in owner screens, not continuously on public pages. That policy does not protect against the host disappearing.

An iframe embed displays the tierlist from our servers inside your site. It is not an export, an independent copy or a backup. If our service becomes unavailable, the embed depends on it too. Keep your own record of object links, milestones and dates outside any hosted page.

Test one list before switching

  1. Rebuild one representative list before moving everything.
  2. Check its descriptions, images and destinations on a phone and desktop.
  3. Inspect affiliate IDs after any automatic rewriting.
  4. Save a separate copy, then replace old links where you control them.

Choose a gear-list tool for recommendations, your own page for control, and tierlist for revenue milestones. No hosted list should be your only record.
